Setting a Location Inactive

Note: This feature is available only to users with administrative permissions.

Set a location inactive when it falls out of use or becomes otherwise obsolete. This removes the location and its sub-locations from active use (example: users cannot assign products to or search inactive locations), but retains a record of these locations and products' historical assignments to them. This is usually preferable to deleting the location, which permanently removes the location and its sub-locations from your system.

When you set a location inactive, you enter a date when the location became inactive and products were no longer used/stored there; this "date out of use" is displayed to any user viewing a product that was assigned to the location before it became inactive. You can reactivate any inactive location (along with its sub-locations), but it retains the "date out of use" for all products that were assigned to it before it was set inactive.

To set a location inactive:

Starting at the Location Tree page (How do I get there?), do the following:

  1. Find and select the active location you want to set inactive. (If a location shows a plus (+) next to its name, you can click its name to open its immediate sub-locations.)

  2. In the box on the left, click Set Inactive.

A Date Out of Use field appears, showing today's date by default.

  3. In the Date Out of Use field, enter the date when this location became inactive and products stopped being used/stored here.

  4. Click Save.

The location is set inactive. In the location tree, it now appears in gray with (Inactive) next to its name. Its "date out of use" is automatically recorded for all products currently assigned to it or to its sub-locations. It and its sub-locations are now unavailable for new product assignments and for location-based searching and reporting.
